The Encyclopedia Show is a live variety extravaganza that commissions local and touring artists to lend their talents to the project of creating a live, performed encyclopedia entry every month. The Encyclopedia Show endeavors to create a performance community based on accidental knowledge and irreverent loving kindness. it is our ongoing mission to chafe against logic and proof, find meaning in obfuscation and wrest truth from fact for good.

/////Straight From the Top of the Game

Every Wednesday night at ND, the Substance Crew — curated and wrangled by DJ DIGG from Table Manners Crew brings an ever-changing collaboration of ATX’s finest turntablists, digital music maestros, live musicians, visual artists and more to meld and mix with the set at Austin Poetry Slam. The slam is the longest-running spoken word throwdown in town, with a dozen poets on the mic throwing down for $100 in cash prizes. Hosted by Austin Slammaster Mike Henry and judged by five randomly selected members of the audience, anyone can get down as part of the show, simply by signing up at the venue.

Before, during, and after the show, Substance will move both your mind and your booty. Mainstays Eyeone and Metranohm join DJ Digg and special guests like Jesse Brede, Dirk Diggla, and many more to come. The title for this show is Straight From the Top of the Game … and that’s what it’s about. DJs and live musicians creating mashups on the fly … lyrical spoken word battles that range from the hilarious to the sublime … and you never know what’s next. Not for the crowd that just wants to shake that ass on 6th Street. All about the folks that want to get down, have a hell of a good time, and also be able to appreciate the action ripping the mic and rocking the house. No cover after 9:30 pm. Five bucks before that to kick prize money to the poets. Drink specials.
